VMS Eagles, Lady Eagles open October at St. Elizabeth, Fatima

Last Tuesday night in Miller County, Vienna Middle School’s (VMS) Eagle and Lady Eagle basketball teams opened the October portion of the respective seasons against the host Hornets and Lady Hornets.

In boys action, Austin Bradley’s Eagles trailed 14-11 after one quarter before battling back to take a 23-21 halftime lead.

Trailing 33-30 after three quarters, Vienna edged the Hornets 10-9 in the fourth quarter before coming up on the short end of a 42-40 final score.

Paxten Jeremy led the Eagles with a near triple-double effort of 28 points, six rebounds and six steals. Parker James also added six points, seven rebounds and six assists to go along with three points apiece from Zachary Wansing and Drew Crum.

KC Curler’s VMS Lady Eagles overcame a 15-8 halftime deficit to sting the Lady Hornets on their home court by a final score of 24-22.

Alexis Curtis netted seven of her team-high 12 points in the first half while Macie Rowden added six points.

Liberty Rowden scored all four of her points in the fourth quarter while Scarlett Weeks rounded out the Lady Eagle scoring with a fourth-quarter bucket for two points.

In Westphalia against Fatima’s Lady Comets Friday night, Vienna took the ‘A’ team game 39-15 after also winning a two-quarter ‘B’ team game 20-2.

Weeks scored nine of her team-high 12 points in the first half to lead Vienna in the ‘A’ team game.

Curtis also reached double figures with 10 points for the Lady Eagles.

Macie Rowden hit for seven of her nine points in the first half while Liberty Rowden added six of her seven points in the second half.

Emerson Jeremy led the ‘B’ team Lady Eagles with 12 points while Candace Geissel added four points.

Grace Barnhart and Rowan Walker each added two points.

VMS basketball will return to action tonight (Wednesday) hosting Jamestown inside Allen Gymnasium with games tipping off at 5 p.m.
