MOKANE — Going into the seventh-place game of the South Callaway Softball Tournament in Mokane, Jessica Gibbs’ Vienna Lady Eagles were looking to escape with at least one win after dropping their first two games of the day.

Falling 10-4 to Silex and 6-2 against Cairo, Vienna took on the host Lady Bulldogs looking to start a new win streak after having their 12-game win streak snapped against eventual tournament runner-up Silex.

Vienna led 3-0 after two innings before South Callaway answered with two runs in the top of the third and a single tally mark in the top of the fourth inning tying the game at 3-3 after four innings.

During the bottom of the fifth inning, time ran out and action was one out from moving to the international tie-breaker to decide who would salvage seventh place.

One swing of the bat kept the international tie-breaker from being necessary.

Down to their last out, Vienna’s Aubrey Schwartze sent a 1-0 pitch over the center-field fence for a walk-off solo home run and a 4-3 victory for the Lady Eagles over the Lady Bulldogs.

Vienna was also able to scratch out the win in spite of only having three hits compared to five for South Callaway.

Addie James earned the complete-game win allowing three runs on five hits and three walks to go with eight strikeouts.

Vienna struck first against the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the first inning when Aubrey Rehmert and Marissa Hollis both walked before Schwartze was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Kenna Roberds.

Roberds then lined a 1-1 pitch to right field driving in Rehmert and Hollis for a 2-0 lead.

James helped her cause in the bottom of the second inning being hit by a pitch and scoring on an Ella Hollis RBI double for Vienna’s third run of the game.

Falling 6-2 in the consolation semifinals against Cairo’s Lady Bearcats, Vienna got three hits and two runs scored from Rehmert in addition to two hits from Aubrey Schwartze.

Delaney Schwartze took the loss for Vienna pitching four and a third innings allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and four walks to go with four strikeouts.

Leading Silex 2-0 entering the bottom of the first inning, Vienna saw the Lady Owls score five runs in the bottom of the first and fourth innings sending them to the consolation side of the bracket.

Rehmert also had three hits, two runs scored and a RBI against Silex.

Ella Hollis, Marissa Hollis, Aubrey Schwartze and Roberds each had hits against the Lady Owls.

Prior to the South Callaway Tournament, Vienna handed Richland’s Lady Bears a 12-2 loss in five innings during home softball action at Vienna City Park.

Marissa Hollis led the black and gold with a hit and four RBIs.

Rehmert scored three runs while the trio of Delaney Schwartze, Makenna Lange and James each scored twice.

Savannah Perkins also had a hit and a run scored for Vienna against Richland.

Falling 18-3 Monday night on the road at Eugene, Vienna will look to bounce back tomorrow (Thursday) against Iberia in a Highway 42 softball showdown at Vienna City Park with a 6 p.m., first pitch.
