VIENNA — The Show-Me Central Conference Meet brought cross country teams from across the area to Vienna City Park last week on Oct 7, where the Eagles owned the course from start to finish. Schools including Chamois, Calvary Lutheran and Prairie Home joined the competition, but it was Vienna who left with a stack of medals.
Every Vienna runner named in the article earned All-Conference medalist honors.
The middle school boys set the tone early behind team lead Eli Messersmith, Tanner Hallahan, Alex Wieberg, Coen Schwartze, Tanner James, Jace Schulz and John Schulte. all All-Conference finishers who packed the leaderboard with consistent times. Messersmith led the way for the Eagles and finished first among middle school students.
The varsity boys followed with a statement of their own. Hunter Schwartze led the charge and never looked back, finishing as the individual conference champion with a time of 17:58.42 in the 5,000-meter run.
For Schwartze, it capped off a remarkable week. Just days after helping the Eagles win the Cross Country conference title, he added a fall conference baseball championship to his impressive two-way athletic season for Vienna.
“It feels awesome,” Schwartze said. “These championships mean a lot to me, they mean a lot to the team, and they mean a lot to the school.”
Teammate Bryce Ewers claimed second at 19:12.80, while Paxten Jeremy, Kevin Russel and Thomas Douglas joined them among the All-Conference medalists.
On the girls’ side in the 5,000 meter run, the Lady Eagles brought home the top team score, led by freshman Sophia Neubert, who finished second overall with a time of 22:47.49, just eleven seconds behind first. Her All-Conference finish sealed another team title for Vienna, marking a dominant showing across the board.
Neubert and teammates Clara Jones, Lakota Curtis, Audrey Carrol, Elise Kilmer and Macey Martin also had impressive finishes for the team.
The Eagles now turn their focus toward the next step of the year, carrying with them the confidence of a program that continues to build momentum, medal by medal.
