Splitting a pair of games in the Owensville Dutchgirls Tournament over the weekend, the Vienna High softball team finished the week with a 3-1 record.

The Lady Eagles opened the week with a couple of impressive regular-season victories, topping Jamestown 10-4 on the road Tuesday, Sept. 15 and dominating Newburg 13-1 at Vienna City Park Thursday, Sept. 17.

And Saturday, Sept. 19 Vienna shut out Pacific 3-0 and was clipped by host Owensville 6-5.

The Lady Eagles, 8-5, were to open this week by hosting defending Class 1 state champion St. Elizabeth Monday before hosting Linn Thursday (5 p.m.) at City Park and competing in the Fatima Quad Saturday. At the Fatima event Vienna was to open against Iberia at 9 a.m.

Sept. 17 - Vienna 13, Newburg 1: A vastly-improved Newburg Lady Wolf squad was still no match for Lady Eagle junior pitcher Delaney Schwartze, who took a no-hitter into the final inning. She allowed a hit and run in the fifth inning but then slammed the door to end the one-hit, one-walk gem while striking out 10.

Vienna scored in every inning, getting two runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second and four in each of the third and fourth frames. Newburg got its lone run in the top of the fifth before the game was stopped on the run-rule. Vienna outhit Newburg 8-1.

Sophomore Liberty Rowden slammed a home run, a double, drove in six and scored four runs. Counting jamboree action, the homer was Rowden’s fifth of the season. Also for the Lady Eagles, senior Ella Hollis had two hits and scored four times; junior Kenna Roberds a double and three RBI; Schwartze a hit, RBI and two runs; sophomore Alex Curtis a hit, RBI and run; freshman Grace Barnhart a hit and run; freshman Marissa Fannon an RBI, and sophomore Lilly Powell scored a run.

Sept. 15 - Vienna 10, Jamestown 4: Jamestown jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Lady Eagles countered with four runs in the top of the second inning and led the rest of the way. Vienna added five runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. Jamestown got solo runs in the third and fourth frames. Jamestown outhit Vienna 8-7.

Hollis slammed a two-run homer and scored twice for the winners while Roberds had a double, RBI and scored twice; Barnhart a hit, three RBI and a run; Rowden a hit and two RBI; sophomore Sophia Neubert a hit, RBI and two runs; Curtis a hit and scored twice; Fannon a hit; Schwartze an RBI, and senior Kaylee Bresnahan scored a run.

Schwartze went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing three earned runs over seven innings on eight hits and four walks while fanning a whopping 16.
