The Vienna High School softball squad split four games last week - including a 1-1 mark in the Fatima Quad Saturday, Sept. 26 in Westphalia.

The Lady Eagles hosted a pair of home games earlier in the week, falling to defending Class 1 state champion and Show-Me Central Conference rival St. Elizabeth 12-3 Wednesday, Sept. 23 and using a couple of perfectly-time home runs to come from behind and beat Linn 8-7 Thursday, Sept. 24 at Vienna City Park. In the Fatima Quad, Vienna was shut out by Iberia 5-0 and clipped Father Tolton Catholic 6-5.

That left the Lady Eagles with a 10-7 record.

This week Vienna will be busy, playing at league foe Tuscumbia Monday, at Cuba Tuesday, hosting Richland Thursday and competing in the South Callaway Tournament Saturday.

Vienna 6, Father Tolton 5: The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start and needed every run. Vienna plated two runs in each of the bottom of the first, second and third innings. Father Tolton got two runs in the top of the third and it stayed 6-2 entering the fifth, when Father Tolton cut its deficit to 6-5 with three more runs. However, Lady Eagle junior pitcher Delaney Schwartze threw shutout sixth and seventh innings to get the save. Vienna outhit Father Tolton 9-4. Senior Ella Hollis had a double, two singles, three RBI and a run for the Lady Eagles while sophomore Alexis Curtis had a double, single and two RBI; senior Kaylee Bresnahan a double and run; freshman Grace Barnhart a hit and two runs; Schwartze a hit and run; sophomore Liberty Rowden a hit, and freshman Harper Cohlmia a run. Rowden was the starting and winning pitcher, working four innings and allowing five earned runs on two hits and four walks. Schwartze threw the final three innings, fanning six.

Iberia 5, Vienna 0: The Iberia Lady Rangers blanked Vienna on four hits. Iberia got a run in the top of the first inning, two in the second and one in the fifth. Sept. 24 - Vienna 8, Linn 7: Hollis smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning for what proved to be the game-winning run. After the Lady Eagles got three runs in the third to trim its deficit to 5-3, the Linn Lady Wildcats got two of those runs back in the fourth to make it 7-3. However, the Lady Eagles loaded the bases for Rowden, who then unloaded a grand slam home run over the leftfield fence to tie the game 7-7. After a scoreless fifth, Hollis got her game-winning long ball in the sixth. In the seventh, Rowden would blank Linn in the pitching circle to preserve the come-from-behind win. Hollis had three hits and scored twice for the winners while Rowden finished with five RBI; junior Kenna Roberds doubled and Schwartze, Curtis and Bresnahan all singled. Rowden threw all seven innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and six walks while striking out four.
