MARIES COUNTY — Local children added their own colorful touch to Halloween through The Maries County Advocate’s coloring contest, supported by local area business leaders.

The contest gave young artists an opportunity to share their creativity and join in the holiday fun. This year’s top winners are all from the Maries County R-1 School District:

• Vladimir Patino, age 6, child of Austin and Anastasia Henderson & Gustavo Patino, Maries County R-1, first place and winner of $50 cash.

• James Meyer, first grade, child of Adam and Rachel Meyer, Maries County R-1, second place and winner of $25 cash.

• Rebecca Nuebert, first grade, child of Stephen and Andrea Nuebert, Maries County R-1, third place and winner of $10 cash.

The top three Halloween coloring entries from children in the Maries County R-2 School District are:

• Hayes Thompson, age 5, child of Brooke Thompson, Maries County R-2, first place.

• Camryn Nielsen, age 5, child of Leslie Cronin, Maries County R-2, second place.

• Harlow Thompson, age 3, child of Brooke Thompson, Maries County R-2, third place.

Judging was completed by Heidi Frederick (owner, The Local Makers Market in Vienna) and Belle Marshal Jerry Coborn, with the final selection of overall winners made by Sean Shanks. Shanks, a new addition to Warden Publishing, is a staff writer for The Gasconade County Republican.
