VIENNA — County Clerk Rhonda Rodgers said during the Oct. 22 commission meeting that she expects a 27 percent turnout during the Nov. 3 general election.
She explained to the commissioners that she was thinking 31 or 32 percent but recalled entering 27 percent for the state. She also said that a lot of people had been coming to the courthouse to vote early.
“And I’ll probably be really wrong,” she said.
Rodgers said before the Aug. 4 election that hopes for at least 200-300 absentee ballots during any national midterm election, whether the primary or the general election. She said in an email that 92 people applied for an absentee ballot Sept. 22 – Oct. 19, and as of Oct. 27, 108 people had voted early at the Maries County Courthouse.
Patrick Kleffner, Western District Commissioner, predicted 29 percent, and Rodney Southard, Eastern District commissioner, predicted 32 percent.
Rodgers also said that she expects less than the 41.09 percent during the Aug. 4 primary because there are no local races.
“Your local offices affects you more … than what they do in Washington, D.C.,” she said.
