Getting points from up and down its lineup, the Vienna High School boys’ track team repeated as district champions, capturing the team title of the Missouri Class 1 District 2 Meet, held Saturday, May 9 at New Haven High School.
The Vienna boys won back-to-back district crowns by holding off host New Haven. Vienna finished with 144 points while New Haven was second with 110 and Silex third with 77.
The Vienna girls tied for fourth place in the sectional team standings with 70 points - 11 points behind girls’ sectional champion New Haven.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the sectionals. Vienna will be competing in the Missouri Class 1 Sectional 1 Meet Saturday, May 16 at South Callaway High School in Mokane. In action at the same time will be the Class 2 Sectional 2 Meet. Field events begin at 8:30 a.m. and running events start at 11 a.m.
To sectionals Saturday Vienna has advanced 10 boys in 17 events and six girls in three events.
The top four finishers in each event at sectionals move on to the 2026 Missouri Track and Field Championships, to be held at Adkins Stadium on the campus of Jefferson City High School. The state track championships are May 22-23 for Class 1-3 schools and May 29-30 for Class 4-5 schools.
It will be the 100th Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) track championships for the boys’ division and 51st for the girls’ division.
First places for the Eagle boys were by sophomore Kevin Russell in the long jump; sophomore Talan Reeves in the triple jump; junior Hunter Schwartze in the 800-meter run; the 4x100-meter relay squad of Schwartze, sophomore Ethan LeStarge, Reeves and Russell, and the 4x800-meter relay squad of sophomore Bryce Ewers, senior Troy Wulff, freshman Paxten Jeremy and Schwartze.
Eagle second places came from senior Eli Crum in the discus; Russell in the high jump; Schwartze in the 3,200-meter run, and the 4x200-meter relay squad of Russell, LeStarge, Reeves and Ewers.
Vienna third places were by Wulff in the long jump and LeStarge in the 100-meter dash. Eagle fourth places were by Reeves in the high jump; LeStarge in the 200-meter dash; freshman Cooper Kleffner in the pole vault; Ewers in the 800-meter run; Jeremy in the 1,600-meter run, and freshman A.J. Kraemer in the 110-meter hurdles.
The Lady Eagles got first-place finishes from senior Aubrey Schwartze in the shot put; freshman Liberty Rowden in the javelin, and the 4x800-meter relay squad of junior Kaylee Bresnahan, freshman Kaitlyn Carpenter, freshman Sophia Neubert and freshman Lily Williams.
