Marred in a 20-game losing streak dating back to their consolation championship game victory over Tuscumbia at the Eugene Tournament, Roger Siwak’s Belle Tigers welcomed Viburnum’s Blue Jays to Belle High School for senior night.

Coming into the game, Belle had just the one win while Viburnum was still looking for their first notch in the win column.

Seeing their junior varsity counterparts post an 84-31 victory over the visiting JV Blue Jays, Belle’s varsity Tigers looked to duplicate the feat completing a senior-night doubleheader sweep.

Entering halftime with a 26-14 lead, Belle’s offense came alive to open the second half outscoring the Blue Jays 31-7 before going on to a 72-22 victory over Viburnum.

“It felt great to finally get a win after such a long period of time without one,” Siwak said. “I’m proud of our guys for playing hard tonight and seeing their effort pay off with a win.”

Edging the Blue Jays 10-5 after the first eight minutes, Belle was led by four points from Thomas Lingo to go along with two points each from Justin Lingo, Will Doss and Keith Rose.

Outscoring Viburnum 16-9 in the second quarter, Belle pushed their halftime lead into double digits over the Blue Jays.

Justin Lingo paced the Tigers in the second quarter with eight points giving him a team-high 10 first-half points.

Thomas Lingo added four second-quarter points giving himself eight first-half markers right behind his brother Justin.

Cole Loughridge and Brayden Cadwallader rounded out the second quarter and first-half scoring for Belle with two points each.

Whatever Siwak told his Tigers during halftime in the locker room must have worked.

Belle more than doubled their first-half point total putting 31 points on the board in the third quarter while holding their Iron County visitors to seven points.

Now leading 57-21 after three quarters, Thomas Lingo paced the Belle offense in the third quarter with 12 of their 31 points.

Doss added nine third-quarter points followed closely with six points on a pair of 3-pointers from Justin Lingo.

Sam Willis and Rose each added two points to round out the third-quarter scoring for Belle.

Nearly shutting out Viburnum in the fourth quarter, Belle outscored the Blue Jays 15-1 before snapping their 20-game losing streak.

Scoring the majority of his points in the third quarter, Thomas Lingo nearly outscored the Blue Jays by himself leading four Tigers in double figures with a game-high 20 points.

His twin brother Justin followed close behind with 16 points.

Doss and Rose both added 11 points making it a quartet of double-digit scorers for Siwak’s Tigers.

Kaiden Robertson, Cadwallader and Loughridge all added four points apiece in addition to Willis’ two third-quarter points.

Jacob Walton’s Belle JV Tigers raced out to a 23-8 first quarter lead which turned into a 45-19 halftime advantage against the visiting Viburnum JV Blue Jays.

Winning the second half 39-12, Walton’s JV Tigers also posted a victory on senior night by a final score of 84-31.

Four different JV Tigers found the scoring column in the first quarter led by Glayden Woodruff with 11 points.

Baylar Smith added seven first-quarter markers followed by three from Logan Stratman and two from Myles Butler.

Nearly doubling their point total in the second quarter, Belle hit all 10 of their free-throw attempts helping them to a 45-19 halftime lead.

Woodruff added six second-quarter points giving him a team-leading 17 first-half points.

Stratman and Butler also scored four second-quarter points.

Also scoring two points apiece in the second quarter were Brody Reed, Jon Valley, Lukas Smith and Baylar Smith.

Holding Viburnum to four third-quarter points, Belle kept the offensive pressure on adding 26 points to their first-half total for a 71-23 lead after three quarters.

Alec Elrod (4) and Barrett Finnegan (3) found the scoring column in the third quarter for the first time in the game.

Hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, Belle put the finishing touches on their 84-31 victory in the JV contest over Viburnum.

All nine JV Tigers scored led by Woodruff with 21 points.

Baylar Smith followed closely with 18 points.

Butler nearly made it three in double figures with nine points.

Scoring eight points apiece were Stratman, Reed and Valley.

Lukas Smith finished with five points followed closely by Elrod scoring all four of his points in the third quarter.
