VIENNA — Vienna Archery Club Coach Tim Simmons and the six Eagles who competed in the state archery tournament stopped by the March 19 school board meeting for recognition and well-wishes ahead of the competition.

Simmons began by thanking the board for introducing the archery club this school year. He said it had been an “extremely successful” season. The season started with 46 students from fourth through 12th grade, and the club ended the year with 44 participants.

The club went to seven tournaments. At those tournaments, the elementary school students in the club received eight medals, the middle school students received seven medals and the four high school students received six medals.

Simmons introduced each of the students and shared their accomplishments. He said across the state, 1,660 middle school girls and 1,996 middle school boys participate in archery programs. Grace Veasman ranked 171st, Alexis Curtis ranked 148th and Katie Kloeppel ranked fifth among middle school girls in the state. Katie Kloeppel ranked 57th among the estimated 15,000 middle school girls competing nationwide. Ethan Kloeppel ranked 161st among middle school boys in the state.

Two high schoolers also attended the meeting. Out of 2,580 high school boys participating across the state and 14,000 nationwide, Gage Curtis ranked fifth and 80th, respectively. Evan Simmons ranked 10th and 97th, respectively.
