A bounce back victory.

That is what Chandler Harker’s Vienna Lady Eagle softball team was looking for last Tuesday hosting St. James’ Lady Tigers after falling at Linn last Monday 11-3.

Putting 10 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, Vienna added seven more in the bottom of the second inning going on to a 17-0 mercy rule victory over St. James in three innings.

Scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning for Vienna were Eva Hollis, Ella Hollis and Salene George.

Also crossing the plate as part of Vienna’s 10-run bottom of the first inning were Aubrey Schwartze, Marissa Hollis, Jaelee Stricklan and Aubrey Reeves.

Seeing 15 Lady Eagles bat in the bottom of the first inning, Vienna nearly equaled that in the bottom of the second inning.

Kaylee Bresnahan and Reeves both walked and scored to start the bottom of the second.

George then singled followed by Ella and Eva Hollis drawing walks to load the bases for Schwartze.

On the second pitch she faced, Schwartze deposited it over the left-center field fence for a grand slam home run.

Kayla Hertzing walked and scored on a wild pitch capping Vienna’s seven-run bottom of the second inning.

Addi James pitched around a two-out double in the top of the third inning helping Vienna even their record to 1-1.

In the win, James allowed just two hits and no walks to go with five strikeouts against St. James.

Schwartze led the Lady Eagle offense with two hits, two runs scored and five runs batted in (RBI).

George and Marissa Hollis each also had two hits apiece.

Eva Hollis, Ella Hollis and George all scored three runs each for Vienna.

After hosting Dixon Friday night at 5 p.m., at Vienna City Park, Harker’s Lady Eagles will host the annual Vienna Invitational Softball Tournament facing Hartsville’s Lady Eagles, St. Francis Borgia’s Lady Knights and Waynesville’s Lady Tigers in a round-robin style tournament with games starting at 9 a.m., and the final one set for approximately 4:30 p.m.
