Defend the home track.

David Martin’s Vienna Eagle and Lady Eagle track team members had that on their minds during the Vienna Black and Gold Invitational last Tuesday at Vienna High School.

Sweeping all four relay races, Vienna’s Lady Eagles racked up 144 points topping the varsity girls team standings holding off Iberia’s second-place total of 122 points.

On the track, Vienna’s Lady Eagle 4x800-meter relay team of Kaylee Bresnahan, Aubrey Reeves, Jaedyn Schell and Madison Weeks posted a first-place time of 12:14.92.

Later in the girls 4x200m relay, the VHS foursome of Lainey Magner, Schell, Weeks and Reeves won that event with a time of 1:59.47.

That same quartet sprinted to gold in the girls 4x100m relay for Vienna in a time of 56.78.

Ending the meet on the track, Vienna’s team of Claudia Wieberg, Reeves, Schell and Weeks won the girls 4x400m relay in 4:59.06.

Payton Martin posted her best finish of the meet for Vienna with a fifth-place time of 7:53.28 in the girls 3200m run.

Magner (4th, 20.03) and Julianna Davis (5th, 20.51) racked up nine team points for the Lady Eagles in the girls 100m hurdles.

Wieberg also added team points with her sixth-place time of 1:01.29 in the girls 300m hurdles.

Wieberg (1st, 1.42m) and Davis (2nd, 1.37m) claimed the top two spots for Vienna in the girls high jump.

Bresnahan won the girls pole vault for the Lady Eagles clearing 2.13m.

Rebecca Miller posted her best finish of the meet for Vienna placing 11th in the girls triple jump with a leap of 6.11m.

Ava Kloeppel (2nd, 11.32m) and Aubrey Schwartze (3rd, 10.95m) posted their best finishes for Vienna in the girls shot put.

Evelyn Rollins placed 17th in the girls shot put and discus with throws of 4.74m and 12.41m respectively.

Schwartze (2nd, 28.83m) and Kloeppel (3rd, 27.14m) swapped spots in the girls javelin behind Belle’s Aubrey Rehmert who posted a winning throw of 39.57m.

Winning eight events and scoring points in 10 others, Vienna’s Eagles duplicated their Lady Eagle counterparts topping the boy’s team standings with 209 points.

Gabe Kleffner sprinted his way to gold with winning times of 11.69 in the 100m dash and 24.46 in the 200m dash.

Duncan Wilkinson also won the 400m dash in 54.14 before capturing the 800m run in 2:07.10.

Cooper Auten placed second in both the boys 1600m (5:08.56) and 3200m (11:20.30) runs.

Nearly sweeping all four relay races, Vienna’s sprinting foursome of Dalton Breeding, Gavin Schwartze, Mathew Hamill and Jackson Kilmer placed second in the boys 4x100m relay with a time of 49.70.

Winning the boys 4x200m relay for Vienna was the squad of Eli Hayes, Brayden Ewers, Kleffner and Wilkinson.

Claiming the top spot in the boys 4x800m relay in a time of 9:37.69 for Vienna was the Eagle team of Thomas Douglas, Hunter Schwartze, Kilmer and Ewers.

Ending the meet on the track with a winning time of a 3:53.52 in the boys 4x400m relay was the Eagle quartet of Breeding, Kleffner, Hayes and Wilkinson.

Troy Wulff added team points for the Eagles with a third-place time of 2:27.43 in the boys 800m run.

Ewers added a second-place time of 48.52 in the boys 300m hurdles for the Eagles.

Alex Zimmer placed fourth in both the high jump (1.63m) and the boys shot put (11.70m).

Gavin Schwartze claimed the boys pole vault with a winning height of 3.81m.

Eli Crum led three Eagles in the top six of the boys shot put with a throw of 12.00m.

Zimmer (4th, 11.70m) and Tim Shockley (6th, 10.97m) also scored team points for the Eagles in the shot put.

Shockley’s best finish came in the boys discus with a second-place throw of 31.75m while Iven Rollins also placed 10th with a mark of 22.31m for the Eagles.
