BELLE — Maries County R-2 Superintendent Dr. Lenice Basham told the Board of Education Sept. 29 that the district received what she described as one of its strongest audits in recent years.
The district’s audit was conducted Sept. 17.
“It’s probably the best audit we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Basham told the board.
Basham said auditors did not request any additional documentation or information from the district following the review.
“There was nothing they requested,” Basham said. “There was nothing to forward them.”
The district is still expected to receive a finding related to segregation of duties, Basham said, because the district does not have enough administrative staff to completely separate some financial responsibilities.
“I think we’ll still have a finding of segregation of duties because we just don’t have a big enough staff,” Basham said.
Segregation of duties is an accounting control intended to divide financial responsibilities among multiple employees rather than allowing one person to handle several stages of the same transaction.
Basham also praised Sara Rehmert, the district’s human resources/bookkeeper, for her work preparing for the audit and helping ensure the process ran smoothly.
“Sara just does an amazing, outstanding — I’m not sure how to express what she does to make sure that audit runs smoothly,” Basham said. “She does a very successful job.”
