BLAND — Recent park activities drew praise Oct. 12 at Bland’s monthly city meeting, where officials also discussed opportunities for future tournaments and live music.

The tractor pull included about 80 pulls and nine vendors, according to the meeting discussion. Officials said participants appeared to enjoy the event.

“Everybody seemed happy. They had a good time,” Mayor Merrilee Spurgeon said.

The possible inclusion of horseshoe pits also received favorable comments. Officials discussed contacting experienced horseshoe players to learn about tournament requirements and improvements that could help attract more activity to the park.

Live entertainment was another topic. Alderman Shari Morgan reported speaking with singer Chloe Hecker about performing in Bland. Although she was unavailable for the proposed summer celebration date, officials discussed contacting her about a future October event.

The conversation included possible arrangements for a stage and sound equipment, with costs still to be explored.

“We need to start working now for next year,” Spurgeon said.
