Lady Tigers place fourth at Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE — Leave Cole County with hardware.

That was the goal Saturday afternoon for Evin Farris’ Belle Lady Tigers entering the third place game of the annual Russellville Girls Basketball Tournament against Versailles’ Lady Tigers.

Down nine at 35-26 with 6:04 remaining, Belle saw Versailles end the game on a 7-0 run forcing them to settle for fourth place in Cole County.

Trailing 11-7 after one quarter, Belle got a 3-point play from Hali Naber along with buckets from Nevaeh Kinsey and Victoria Busch keeping Maries County’s Lady Tigers within single digits.

After a Naber 3-pointer trimmed Versailles’ lead to 11-10, Belle missed their next 13 field-goal attempts while Versailles ended the first half on a 10-0 run.

Down 21-10 entering the second half, Belle came out on a 5-0 run behind a Kinsey free throw and buckets from Anastyn Lansford in addition to two Morgan Willis free throws cutting Versailles’ lead to 21-15 with 4:48 for the third quarter.

From there, Versailles answered with a 10-4 run pushing Belle’s deficit back into double digits by a score of 31-19 after three quarters.

Able to get within nine points on three occasions in the fourth quarter, Belle could not get any closer before dropping the third-place game at Russellville.

Naber led Belle with a double double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Along with being named to the All-Tournament Team at Russellville, Lansford ended up with seven points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal against Versailles.

Kinsey finished with three points, six rebounds and three steals.

Saige Garner, Victoria Busch and Morgan Willis each added two points rounding out Belle’s scoring against Versailles.

Kylee Richey led Versailles with a near triple-double effort of 15 points, 12 rebounds, eight blocked shots and four steals.

Kierra O’Rourke added 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Ary Jones also added five points and 16 rebounds for Versailles.

In Belle’s 50-44 semifinal loss against the host Lady Indians Thursday night, Lansford poured in 21 points for the Lady Tigers while Natalie Gehlert and Miranda Sanders each added six points against Russellville.
