Lady Eagles salvage seventh place at Eugene

Falling 59-45 to Belle in the consolation semifinals last Wednesday at the Eugene Girls Basketball Tournament, KC Curler’s Vienna Lady Eagles looked to end their tournament week Friday night with a win over the host Lady Eagles in the seventh-place game.

Doubling up Eugene 36-18 in the first half, Vienna went on to snap a four-game losing streak following their 63-31 victory over Eugene.

Freshman Ella Hollis scored 15 of her game-high 25 points in the first half helping Vienna to their second win of the season. Aubrey Schwartze also reached double figures scoring 13 of her 19 points in the second half.

Madison Weeks netted all seven of her points in the first quarter followed by four first-half points from Brookelynn Mercer.

Rounding out the scoring for Vienna against Eugene with two points apiece were Aubrey Reeves, Jaedyn Schell, Reese Snodgrass and Julianna Davis.

Ryleigh Kliethermes led Eugene with 22 points.

Consolation semifinal action last Wednesday saw the Lady Eagles outscored by Belle 31-20 in the second half of their 59-45 loss.

Schwartze led Vienna with a game-high 17 points followed by eight markers from Schell.

Ella Hollis and Weeks each added seven points to go along with four second-quarter points from Mercer and a third-quarter bucket from Reeves for two points.

Anastyn Lansford led three Lady Tigers in double figures with 15 points.

Nevaeh Kinsey added eight of her 13 points in the second half while Natalie Gehlert rounded out Belle’s double-digit scoring trio by netting seven of her 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Miranda Sanders scored five of her seven points in the third quarter for Belle.

Saige Garner chipped in five points followed closely with Victoria Busch with four points.

Ava Feeler rounded out Belle’s scoring against Vienna with a first-quarter 3-pointer for three points.

Posting a 61-29 home win Monday night over Plato’s Lady Eagles, Vienna will return to action Friday night hosting Laquey’s Lady Hornets at 6 p.m., inside the friendly confines of Allen Gymnasium.
