Lady Eagles 4-2 last week

The Lady Eagles stretched their winning streak to five games by capturing its first four games of the week. Monday, Sept. 28 Vienna whipped Tuscumbia 12-1 on the road then traveled to Cuba and shut out the Lady Wildcats 16-0 Tuesday, Sept. 29. Vienna’s JV squad also shut out Cuba 7-0. In the Lady Eagles’ Senior Day Thursday, Oct. 1 Vienna clobbered Richland 12-1. And Saturday, Oct. 3 Vienna finished 1-2 in the South Callaway Tournament, beating Montgomery County 5-3 then falling to defending Class 1 state champion St. Elizabeth 7-0 and being clipped by Eugene 7-6. St. Elizabeth won the tournament with a 3-0 record, clipping Silex 4-3 in eight innings in what proved to be the title game.

That left Vienna with a 14-9 record.

This week the Lady Eagles were to have a rematch at Eugene Monday and host Iberia Thursday on Pink Out Day at Vienna City Park (5 p.m.).

South Callaway Tourney - Oct. 3

Vienna 5, Montgomery County 3: Montgomery County took the early edge, scoring single runs in the top of the bottom of the first and third innings. The Lady Eagles then took the lead for keeps with a 5-run fourth frame. Montgomery County cut its deficit to two runs with a run in the sixth before falling short. Vienna outhit Montgomery County 6-4. Senior Ella Hollis went 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, run scored and two stolen bases while sophomore Alexis Curtis had a hit and two RBI; sophomore Liberty Rowden a hit and RBI, and junior Delaney Schwartze, freshman Harper Cohlmia, sophomore Larissa Rollins and sophomore Lilly Powell a run each. Schwartze worked the distance in the pitching circle, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 13 over six innings.

St. Elizabeth 7, Vienna 0: Vienna was limited to just two hits in the shutout loss. St. Elizabeth tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two in each of the third and fourth frames. Hollis got both of Vienna’s hits. Schwartze pitched, allowing seven earned runs on six hits and four walks while fanning six.

Eugene 7, Vienna 6: A fifth-inning Lady Eagle rally fell short. After Vienna got two runs in the top of the first, Eugene plated three in the bottom of the frame. Vienna tied it up 3-3 in the third before Eugene again took the lead with two more in the bottom of the third. Eugene made it 7-3 with two in the fourth. Vienna trimmed its deficit to one by scoring three runs in the fifth. However, the Lady Eagles wouldn’t score again. Eugene outhit Vienna 9-8. Hollis smacked a homer, double, an RBI and scored three runs while Rowden had a triple, single, RBI and scored; junior Kenna Roberds got two hits and a run; Curtis a hit and two RBI, and Schwartze a hit, RBI and run. Rowden pitched four innings, while Schwartze finished up.

Oct. 1 - Vienna 12, Richland 1: It was all Vienna, which scored three runs in the bottom of the first frame and led the rest of the way. The Lady Eagles got a run in the fourth and eight more in the fifth. Richland’s lone run came in the fifth. Vienna outhit Richland 6-1 and was issued 10 walks. Schwartze threw the five-inning one-hitter, giving up one earned run on a hit and five walks while fanning nine. Offensively, Hollis ripped a homer, single, drove in two and scored three while Roberds also homered with two RBI and three runs; Cohlmia a double, single, three RBI and a run; Rowden a double, RBI and run; Schwartze scored twice and senior Kaylee Bresnahan scored once.

Sept. 29 - Vienna 16, Cuba 0: Rowden threw a one-hit shutout, walking three and striking out five over three innings. Vienna got five runs in the top of the first, seven in the second and four in the third, outhitting Cuba 9-1. Rowden had a double, two RBI and two runs; Cohlmia two hits, an RBI and three runs; Curtis two hits, an RBI and three runs; Hollis a hit, RBI and two runs; Roberds a hit, two RBI and two runs; Powell a hit and two runs, and freshman Grace Barnhart a hit and two RBI.

Sept. 28 - Vienna 12, Tuscumbia 1: The Lady Eagles coasted; getting two runs in the top of the first, one in the second, three in the third and six more in the sixth to end things. Rowden blasted a homer, two triples, three RBI and scored three times while Curtis doubled, singled, had two RBI and scored twice; Roberds had a double, RBI and two runs; Schwartze a hit, RBI and two runs; Hollis a hit, RBI and run; Cohlmia a hit and RBI; Bresnahan a hit, and sophomore Sophia Neubert two runs. Schwartze pitched, giving up only a hit and two walks while striking out 10.
