BOURBON — Revenge and first-place hardware.

That is what Brett Butler’s Belle JV Tigers were after Saturday afternoon during the championship game of the Bourbon Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament against Steelville’s Cardinals.

Trailing 11-9 midway through the second quarter, Steelville closed the first half on an 8-2 run.

Outscored 17-7 in the third quarter by Steelville, Belle was not able to bring the deficit back into single digits before falling to the top-seeded JV Cardinals 46-25.

Glayden Woodruff led the JV Tigers scoring all of his team-high six points in the second half.

Luke Rohrer and Jon Valley each added four points with Valley also pulling down a game-high seven rebounds.

Hank Stratman also scored all three of his points in the second half.

Scoring two points each for Belle’s JV Tigers against Steelville were Garrett Gehlert, Tyler Litton, Avery Craigmiles and Lukas Smith.

Before reaching the championship game, Butler’s JV Tigers put two more notches in the win column during tournament action in Bourbon.

Earlier Saturday in the championship semifinals against Salem, Belle trailed the Tigers 24-17 at halftime before a 14-5 third-quarter run gave the red and white JV Tigers a 31-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Edging Salem 15-14 over the final seven minutes, Belle advanced to the championship game against Steelville following a 46-43 victory.

Catching fire in the fourth quarter, Woodruff scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the second half for Belle.

Rohrer also reached double figures with 15 points including four 3-point shots.

Stratman added five points all in the first half from the free-throw line.

Gehlert added a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Litton and Valley each added two points against Salem.

First-round action last Wednesday in Bourbon matched up Belle’s JV Tigers against St. Clair’s JV Bulldogs.

Trailing 13-11 after one quarter, Belle outscored St. Clair 15-6 in the second quarter to grab a 26-19 halftime lead.

Keeping their lead around double digits the rest of the game in the second half, Butler’s JV Tigers advanced to the championship side of the bracket following a 45-38 victory over the JV Bulldogs.

Hitting five 3-pointers against St. Clair, Rohrer led Belle with a game-high 19 points with 12 of them coming in the second half.

Woodruff also reached double figures for Belle against the JV Bulldogs pouring in 12 of his 13 points in the first half.

Scoring four points in each half, Valley nearly made it three JV Tigers in double digits against St. Clair finishing with eight points.

Litton (3) and Alec Elrod (2) rounded out the scoring for Belle against St. Clair.

Non-tournament action saw John Viehland’s Belle varsity Tigers face Steelville and Pacific at home along with Cuba on the road.

Friday night in Cuba, Belle trailed 22-10 after one quarter but could not get any closer before falling 74-59 to the Wildcats.

Brayden Cadwallader hit five 3-pointers helping him score a team-high 17 points for Belle.

Thursday at home against Pacific, Viehland’s Tigers were down 29-28 at halftime before falling 64-55 to the visiting Indians.

Cole Loughridge led Belle with 16 points against Pacific.

Last Tuesday against Steelville, Cadwallader led three Tigers in double figures with 17 points in their 88-53 loss to the Cardinals.
