To the Editor,
I am writing in response to the recent article by Mr. Warden regarding Amendment 3. I intend to vote “Yes” on November 3.
My Christian faith has guided my life since I accepted Jesus, was baptized, and joined a local church at age thirteen. Raised in a low-income family, I worked hard to achieve my dream of becoming a teacher. Supported by NDEA loans, which I fully repaid within five years, I graduated from college in three years and began teaching at age twenty. I later earned a graduate degree and completed additional postgraduate coursework.
I deeply cherish my thirty-one-year teaching career. Guided by a professor’s advice that parents send us their best and we must give students our best, I dedicated myself to my students and sponsored many of their activities. Today, I remain in touch with around 500 former students on Facebook and hope I was a positive influence in their lives.
My values define my views on the sanctity of life. I believe life begins at conception and that ending a human life at any stage is wrong. While I am not perfect, I strive to live according to my faith every day. Since retiring, I continue to serve others by volunteering to teach English as a second language and tutoring international students.
Sincerely,
Mary Halbrook
