Halle withdraws from sheriff election

VIENNA — The pool of candidates to become the next Maries County sheriff decreased by one this week when Timothy “T.J.” Halle, Jr. filed withdrawal paperwork with the Maries County Clerk’s Office on Tuesday afternoon.

Halle, a Republican, was the first candidate to sign up for the election when filing began in February. Fellow Republicans Mark Morgan, Scott John and Buddy Thompson still remain in the race to replace Sheriff Chris Heitman, who announced last year that he would not seek reelection. No Democrats are running for sheriff.

The primary election will be on Aug. 6. The last day to register to vote in the election is July 10.
