VIENNA — Vienna Main Street is hosting a farm-to-table dinner on July 26 as part of its fundraising efforts to stimulate economic development and revitalize downtown Vienna.
The organization, which started a couple of years ago and recently completed its setup training through Missouri Main Street Connection, is branding the farm-to-table dinner as “Benefit for Banners.” The name reflects Vienna Main Street’s goal for the year: bringing color to downtown Vienna with street banners and wayfinding signs. Other downtown projects on the horizon include the additions of crosswalks, benches and murals.
“Farm-to-table is all about our businesses in this area,” Vienna Main Street Vice President Debbie Byrd said. “The farmers and the meat producers. We are a rural area, so the food is being grown here.”
“We want to showcase what Vienna has to offer,” Vienna Main Street President Carrie Kleffner said.
The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the showroom at Haller Automotive. The draft of the four-course menu (subject to change) that Vienna Main Street provided includes a choice of either beef loin or smoked chicken breast, buttered potato, a seasoned vegetable, garden salad, homemade rolls, cornbread, cheese, dessert, tea and coffee. Following the philosophy of the farm-to-table movement, the menu will feature locally produced items.
The event will also include a silent auction and a presentation by Warrensburg Main Street Inc. Executive Director Jamie Debacker. The Warrensburg organization has been operating for nearly 30 years and serves as a model for Main Street organizations around the state.
Vienna Main Street Secretary Kelly Barnhart said the organization plans to make its farm-to-table dinner an annual fundraiser to help support the year’s projects. Tickets for this year’s event cost $35 and are available at the Vienna branch of The Maries County Bank.
As Vienna Main Street continues its mission to revitalize the town, the organization is always looking for public support. Those interested in supporting the organization financially can do so at one of five tiers. The organization also accepts volunteers.
Anyone interested in joining Vienna Main Street can find more information on its Facebook page, Vienna Main Street, or by emailing viennamainstreet@gmail.com. The group has regular monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Vienna Lions Club. The August meeting date will differ from the normal schedule. It will be announced later.
