While small in number, Tim Evans’ Belle High School golf team opened their season Monday afternoon at Cuba Lakes Golf Course in a four-team meet against the host Wildcats, Owensville Dutchmen and Newburg Wolves.

Myles Butler led the Tigers with a team-low nine-hole round of 50.

That tied him for second place individually with the Newburg duo of Ryan Harris and Donate Harris.

Those three golfers finished five strokes behind meet medalist Cooper Mehl (Cuba) who carded a nine-hole round of 45.

Also individually for Belle, Callen Taylor finished 14th individually with a round of 64 followed by teammates Ty Honse (67) and CJ Drewel (68).

Finishing with a team score of 251, Belle placed fourth behind Cuba (214), Owensville (218) and Newburg (220).

Aside from Newburg’s Jaron Doyen carding a ninth-place round of 55, the rest of the top 10 individuals came from along Highway 19 in Cuba and Owensville.

Following the three-way tie for second place that included Butler, Dutchmen senior Brendan Decker carded a fifth-place round of 51 followed closely by freshman teammate Crew Epstein with a sixth-place round of 52.

Cuba’s Paxton Keogh followed Epstein with a seventh-place round of 53 in addition to fellow Wildcat golfer Addie Smith with an eighth-place round of 54.

Owensville freshman Noah Caldwell rounded out the top 10 with a round of 56.

Belle will host a pair of home meets throughout the spring on Tuesday, April 5 beginning at 9 a.m., and on Monday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m., against Calvary Lutheran’s Lions.

BHS will play their home golf meets at Pine Ridge Golf Course just south on Route EE in Belle.

Assigned to Class 2, District 2 by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), Belle will compete against golfers from Bowling Green, Centralia, Clark County, Duchesne, Fatima, Hermann, Highland, Lutheran St. Charles, Missouri Military Academy (Mexico), Monroe City, Montgomery County, North Callaway, Palmyra, South Callaway and South Shelby.

District tournament golf will take place on Monday, May 9 at a site yet to be determined as of press time.
