Virginia Engelbrecht 1944-2026

Virginia Louise “Ginny” Engelbrecht, 82, passed away on Aug. 25, 2026, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1944, to the late to Alton and Stella (Koch) Barton in Fenton.

She was united in marriage to Glennon A. Engelbrecht on June 27, 1964, in Owensville.

After graduating from Bland High School in 1961, Virginia began her career at Belle-Bland Bank in Bland. With determination and a deep commitment to education, she later attended Lincoln University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1973 and a master’s degree in 1978.

Virginia served Jefferson City Public Schools as a Special Services teacher until her retirement in 1999. Through her teaching and volunteer work, she touched the lives of many. She was also a dedicated part-time employee of Dillard’s for 19 years and the Missouri Lottery for more than 20 years.

A faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, Virginia valued her church community. Above all, she loved her family and especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Her family will remember with pride her devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, volunteer and friend, as well as the determination and care she brought to every chapter of her life.

Virginia was preceded in death by husband, Glennon; and parents, Alton and Stella; and brothers, Milton, Glennon and Jimmy Barton.

She is survived by sons, G. Scott Engelbrecht and wife Julie (McKittrick) of Ladue and Jeffrey D. Engelbrecht and wife Tia Lisa (Putman) of Chattanooga,Tenn.; sisters, Mary Williams of Jefferson City and Patricia Tousant of Albany, Calif.; grandchildren, Hannah Engelbrecht, Tiara (Engelbrecht) Albee, Savannah Engelbrecht and Christian Engelbrecht, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sarah (Gibbs) Hackett of Kirkwood and Caroline (Gibbs) Semke of Clayton; great-grandchildren, Lily Hackett and Cooper Albee; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held on Sept. 2, at Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, with Reverend Richard Steensma officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund.
