VIENNA — Vienna Future Farmers of America (FFA) members are gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year, the Annual Labor Auction and Scholarship Dinner, set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the school cafeteria. The event, open to all chapter members and community supporters, gives students a chance to raise funds for scholarships while engaging directly with Maries County residents.
“The Labor Auction is a great way for our students to connect with the community and showcase what they’ve learned in FFA,” said Brooke Campbell, FFA reporter. “We encourage everyone to attend, support our students and celebrate their hard work.”
The auction is just one highlight of a busy week for the chapter, as Feb. 15 marks the start of FFA Week.
“On Wednesday of that week, we will be taking our chapter picture during school, so please deck out in blue and gold,” Campbell said. “The Supporters Fish Fry will be on Friday and it is the last part of FFA week. We will be serving fish starting at 11 a.m. in the Ag shop.”
FFA members have already been active this month preparing for these events. Students participated in a District Greenhand Conference and a mandatory Maries County 4-H and FFA livestock rules meeting the first week of Jan. The chapter also sold strawberries as a fundraiser for students attending the Washington Leadership Conference.
Other past events this year have included officer meetings, chapter meetings and a visit from former FFA member Amanda Wieberg, who spoke to students about how FFA shaped her career path.
Looking ahead, students are finalizing State Degree and Proficiency Award selections on Feb. 5, while HYPE, HYMAX and State choir applications are due on Feb. 6, the following day.
