VIENNA — Gage Curtis, 17, of Vienna, presented his two goats Sept. 4 at the Maries County Fair livestock show for the final time. Gage — and his sister Alexis Curtis — also sold cured bacon at the fair.
Gage, a senior at Maries R-1 School, was the only entry in his two classes and won grand champion senior buck and senior doe.
Spending much time outdoors, Gage is also involved at Vienna FFA and shoots archery for Maries R-1. Gage said that his grandfather Bruce Curtis introduced him into animal husbandry. However, he does not see agriculture in his future.
After graduation, Gage plans to become an electrician and will likely attend State Technical College of Missouri in Linn. After multiple family friends told him about it, he chose classes to prepare him for the career.
Gage looks up to his father Jason Curtis and his grandfather. He said they both have the same qualities: being smart and stubborn.
“It’s just that stubbornness to get something done, no matter what the stress and how hard it is,” Gage said.
