VIENNA — The Vienna Board of Aldermen approved the 2026-27 budget during a June 23 special meeting.
After City Clerk Tracy Shiver handed out the draft budget at the June 8 meeting, the aldermen decided to hold the special meeting so that everyone could review it. Shiver said that she did not change any numbers except for the worker’s compensation amounts. She is still working to resolve issues in Quickbooks.
After Shiver read the ordinance to instate the budget on July 1, she held a roll call vote, in which the aldermen unanimously voted yes.
In other business, the aldermen discussed complaints about burning and trash at a residential property near City Hall, but no motions or votes were made. But they agreed to have the resident remove the trash. The aldermen also believe that the house does not have water and electricity.
Police Chief Shannon Thompson said that he talked with the resident and hasn’t seen anything since. But Thompson thinks the resident is being evicted, which takes time.
“I thought we had that quelled,” he said.
The aldermen also discussed personnel in closed session.
The aldermen will not meet in July. Their next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 6, at City Hall.
