BELLE — Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3410 gathered May 25 at Veterans Memorial Park on Alvarado Avenue to honor the nation’s fallen military servicemen during a Memorial Day flag-raising ceremony.
Approximately 30 people attended the observance, which brought together veterans, family members and community residents to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
During the ceremony, VFW members raised the American flag at the memorial and offered a prayer for the fallen soldiers. The brief observance honored military personnel who died while serving the United States and recognized their sacrifice on behalf of the nation.
Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday in May and is dedicated to remembering military personnel who died while serving their country. Communities across the United States mark the occasion with ceremonies, memorial services, parades and visits to veterans cemeteries and memorials.
The ceremony was one of many Memorial Day observances held throughout the country.
