VIENNA — The Maries Osage Ambulance District on Aug. 26 approved paying one third of the maintenance on the automated external defibrillator (AED) to be installed at the Vienna City Park. The board will also cover one third of the cost of running electric cables to the AED.
Administrator Carla Butler said that Maries County R-1 School District and the city of Vienna will also each pay one third of the cost. She also said that the adult pads are $160 for five years. The children’s pads are around $90, but she didn’t list the maintenance schedule. Batteries are about $100 per three years.
For the cost of electricity, Butler said that the city would cover that expense.
The AED will be installed in a climate-controlled box with a security camera. When the AED is used, MOAD will receive a notification.
Tax rates
The board also set its 2026 property tax rate at 0.1791 percent (17.91 cents per $100 of assessed valuation) in a separate tax rate hearing held 15 minutes after the open session meeting.
The 2025 rate was 0.18 percent, which is 0.0009 percentage points higher (0.5 percent difference) than the new rate.
Financial report
In other business, Butler shared with the board in her financial statement that the district had a negative income of $16,418.12 total. The district received $51,184.62 in revenue and spent $67,602.74 in expenses.
Butler also said that Shannon Cook, billing clerk, is almost caught up on billing patients and insurance companies and only has June onward remaining to complete.
Miscellaneous
The board also approved the propane bid to pre-buy 300 gallons from Dickneite Oil & Propane for $2.099 per gallon. The district purchased 300 gallons for the 2025-26 year but did not use the full amount, resulting in a $186.32 credit.
The board also approved renewing its contract with EMS Legal Services for $1,350, an increase from $950 the year prior.
Closed session
The board adjourned into closed session for personnel and real estate. No votes or motions were made.
