MARIES COUNTY — Maries County residents will have the opportunity to vote on multiple issues for the April 7 municipal election.
County Clerk Rhonda Rodgers is expecting a 20 percent turnout of the 6,331 registered voters. She encourages people to vote because of the various tax measures.
“It’s ultimately going to affect them one way or another. All elections do,” she said. “People forget how important it is to vote, I think, and every vote counts.”
The following polling locations are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day:
• Guardian Angels Parish – 37515 State Highway N, Brinktown
• Kenner Church – 17996 Maries Rd. 505, Dixon
• Knights of Columbus Hall – 206 6th St., Vienna
• Mason Ridge Community Church – 10784 Highway 133, Meta
• Santee Church – 20174 Highway 133, Dixon
• St. Alexander’s Catholic Church – 402 W Third St., Belle
• Vichy Firehouse – 14812 Highway 63 S., Vichy
These are the issues on the ballot:
• Maries County Proposition A – continues a county-wide sales tax at no additional cost to the tax payer of 0.5 percent or a half cent per $100 of assessed valuation, for the next 10 years to fund road maintenance, citizen safety and general operations
• Maries County R-1 Board of Education has three open seats: Candidates are Matthew Novak, Kayla Wansing and Denise Wilkinson
• Maries County R-1 School District Proposition Eagles – Requests voter approval for $1 million to make roof and HVAC repairs to school facilities
• Dixon R-1 School District of Pulaski County Board of Education directors
• St. James R-1 School District of Phelps County Board of Education directors
• Rolla School District No. 31 of Phelps County Board of Education directors
• City of Belle mayor: James (Pudd) Mitchell and Tracey Creswell
• City of Belle marshal: Jerry Coborn
• City of Belle Aldermen Wards 1: Jeanette Struemph and Ward 2: Steven Vogt and Steven Bedwell
• Village of Argyle Board of Trustees has three open seats
• City of Belle Proposition A – imposes sales tax of 0.5 percent (half a cent) for improving public safety
• Maries-Osage Ambulance District Proposition – increases sales tax from 0.5 percent (half a cent) to 1 percent (1 cent) for operation of the Maries Osage Ambulance District, and authorizes a use tax equaling the sales tax
• St. James Fire Protection District Board of Directors has two seats open
• Maries County Emergency Services Board of Directors (at-large, western districts, eastern district) has seven seats open
