Unsafe driving draws complaints, drawing extra patrols from sheriff

Posted

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple complaints regarding unsafe driving on county roads, particularly Maries County Road 213, due to increased traffic from the Highway 42 bridge construction.

In response, deputies will be conducting extra patrols in this area to ensure the safety of all motorists.

We would also like to address questions regarding speed limits on county roads. Even where no posted speed limit exists, Missouri law still applies. Deputies will be enforcing RSMo 304.012, which requires:

• All motorists to operate their vehicles in a careful and prudent manner

• Driving at a speed that does not endanger life, limb, or property

• Exercising the highest degree of care at all times

Violations of this statute can result in a Class B misdemeanor, or a Class A misdemeanor if an accident is involved.

We ask everyone to plan ahead, leave a few minutes earlier, and drive responsibly. Let’s work together to keep our county roads safe for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation.
