Tommy Dean Withers, 88, of Dixon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1934, to the late Robert Lee Withers and Lillie Vernetta (Tyler) Withers in Dixon.
He was united in marriage to Thelma Louise (Nelson) Withers, Feb. 5, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2018.
Tommy was a lifelong resident of Dixon. He worked for Millard Hauck Oil and Bill Cross Oil delivering fuel oil to Dixon residents. He worked at Fort Leonard Wood as a furnace mechanic retiring early. He then worked for the City of Dixon as maintenance supervisor.
Tommy was a founding member of the Dixon Saddle Club and the Dixon Coon Club. He was a lifetime member of the National Black and Tan Coonhound Association. Tommy enjoyed gardening, farming and anything to do with dogs and horses. He loved listening to music and square danced at the Grand Ole Opry.
Tommy was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Lillie; wife, Thelma; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Junior Withers and wife Emma, William “Bill” Withers and two wives, June and Dot, and an infant brother; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Bullock and husband Bennett, Maxine Helton and husband Don, and Louise Lee and husband Jack.
Tommy will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Steve Adams of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Stephanie Estel and husband Jason of Mount Washington, Ky., and Stacie Wolf and husband Andy of Terre Haute, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Madeline, Carter, Eleanor, Hudson and Elliot; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Nelson; sister-in -law and brother-in-law, Barb and Troy Porter; and many other nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 9, at the Santee Community Church in Dixon. Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery.
Memorials suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
