Three local men recognized in WW II museum

To the editor:

I was saddened to read Wilburn Rowden’s obituary in the Maries County Advocate.

Because of my friendship with the Rowden family, I included Wilburn C. Rowden along with my husband’s cousin, who was shot down in World War II, and Richard James from Vienna, in a letter that I sent to the World War II Museum in New Orleans.

I sent a nice contribution to the museum and asked that all of these men be recognized by the museum. All of them are honored by name in the museum. Visitors to the museum can read their names and know that they served to help keep our country free.

I was in contact with one of Mr. Rowden’s daughters at the time. She sent me two copies of “World War II, As I Remember It,” which was written by Mr. Rowden.

I believe she has some items that Mr. Rowden brought home with him from the war. She might be interested in giving some of these items to the museum.

Sincerely,

Mary Halbrook
