BELLE — After nearly 12 years serving on the Belle Board of Alderman, Jeanette Struemph on July 11 submitted her resignation to the board following closed session.
“After much consideration and my doctor’s advise I have made the decision to resign my position as alderperson for Ward 1,” Struemph said in her letter. “I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve on the city council for several years.”
Struemph made her resignation effective immediately.
“We have done a lot of good things for the city,” Struemph said. “We’ve had a lot of problems, which you are going to have as a city. We are a good little town and I would like to see it thrive.”
Struemph, who has experienced medical problems in recent months, said being an alderman is a younger person’s game. She hopes the city can figure out how to bring in businesses and more opportunities to young people in the community.
“We’ve got talent,” she said. “We have people who can do well. Someone needs the will to want to do it. It is a big world out there, but sometimes it is better to come back home.”
The board accepted the resignation with 3-0-1 vote with Struemph abstaining.
