Some insight into the new Missouri legislative session

Posted

To the Editor:

It’s another busy session in Jefferson City with bills that have been introduced, and some of those have already been through committees. Some of the most popular have to do with transgender issues and kid’s sport.

I want to tell you about two that are really important to me and I hope you find them significant as well.

The first one is Senate Bill 100 introduced by Senator Eigel. It’s referred to as the gold and silver bill. It seeks to make gold and silver legal money in Missouri.

Gold and silver are quite unique as money because they hold their value and they’re a great hedge against inflation. Can you think of any other money that’s held up as well through literally a couple thousand years?

You won’t because it’s the only thing that really can’t be manipulated by central banks. We know the fiat currency we currently use is backed by nothing making it vulnerable to a group of central planners and government that spends money like it’s going out of style.

This bill would make it to where the state would hold at least 1% of it’s holdings in gold and silver as well. It would also protect those who hold the precious metals from confiscation like civil asset forfeiture. There would also be no capital gains tax from the state applied to your purchases of gold and silver.

A powerful bill indeed.

The second is Senate Bill 161.

Mary Elizabeth Coleman introduced this legislation.

It’s purpose is to eliminate the sales tax from food you purchase at your local grocery store. It would eliminate state and local sales tax. Think of the money that literally everyone could save each week as they look to fill their cupboards at home.

This is the best type of legislation because EVERYONE in the state is equally represented, just as our state constitution demands. Again, with the way our government is spending money, why not give the people here in our great state some relief.

As you can see, we have some great freedom bills in the Senate here in our state where we can make the most difference. It is imperative that you call your senator and tell them that you would like a yes vote on these bills.

Tell them how important it is to you that you get to keep more of your money. Tell them how you’d like to have a better opportunity to own gold and silver and use it to make purchases if you’d like.

You have the power to make a difference here in Missouri. Call your senator or write them an email.

Our senator for Gasconade County is Ben Brown.

His contact number is 573-751-3678.

And believe me, Senator Brown is happy to hear from his constituents on matters important to them. I’ve heard him personally say it. Let’s do our part to make Missouri the freest state in the nation.

Thank you,

John Williams, Owensville
