MARIES COUNTY — The Maries County Sheriff’s Office recorded 377 calls, investigations and other activities during August, according to a monthly activity summary released by Sheriff Mark Morgan.
Proactive patrol and traffic enforcement accounted for 158 activities. Deputies conducted 86 traffic stops, 39 business or area checks, 15 extra patrols, responded to 15 traffic complaints and completed three vehicle identifications.
The sheriff’s office recorded 86 public safety and citizen assistance activities. These included 17 well-being checks or 911 hang-ups, 15 phone messages, 11 assists to law enforcement agencies, nine animal control calls, seven abandoned vehicles, six motorist assists, six information requests and four alarm responses.
Deputies also assisted three citizens, responded to two calls for police and provided two funeral or courtesy escorts. The office recorded one vehicle lockout, one notification, one street closing and one loud noise complaint.
Criminal investigations and complaints accounted for 70 activities. Deputies conducted 17 follow-up investigations, responded to 10 disturbances, seven domestic violence incidents and seven reports of suspicious activity.
The office also investigated four trespassing complaints, three stealing reports, three fraud complaints and three harassment or telephone harassment complaints. Deputies responded to two assaults, two burglaries, two child abuse reports and two mental health calls.
The remaining investigative activity included one sex offense, one property damage complaint, one report of lost or stolen property, one cybercrime, one suicide, one missing person report, one field interview and one evidence-processing activity.
Administrative and judicial support accounted for 24 activities, including 13 paper services, eight prisoner transports, two keep-the-peace or standby calls and one civil service.
Emergency and weather responses totaled 39. Deputies responded to 21 motor vehicle accidents, eight medical emergencies or complaints, three reports of debris in the roadway, two fires and one vehicle fire.
The office also responded to one carbon monoxide detector activation, one water rescue or drowning, one weather notification and one animal bite or attack.
The sheriff’s office reported 84 public safety and citizen assistance activities, but the individual entries total 86. It also reported 71 criminal investigations and complaints, while the listed entries total 70. Using the totals of the individual entries, the sheriff’s office recorded 377 activities during August.
