Ruby Eileen (Barnhart) Roberds, 92, of Meta, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
She was born in rural Miller County on the family farm Nov. 8, 1930, daughter of the late Virgil and Florence (Grosvenor) Barnhart.
On March 6, 1948, Ruby was united in marriage to Amos Myrl Roberds, who preceded her in death on May 26, 1983. To this union three sons and three daughters were born.
Ruby was baptized early in life as a member of the Smyrna Church of Christ and at the time of her passing was attending Wheeler Church of Christ near Dixon. Ruby enjoyed doing ceramics, shopping, and going to work. She started working after all her kids were in school and continued working for 45 years. She said working with her friends was her social time. Ruby reluctantly retired at the age of 80 after falling and breaking four ribs.
She is preceded in death by parents, Virgil and Florence; husband, Amos; son, Donald Roberds; and daughter, Peggy Roberds.
She is survived by daughters, Terry Johnson of Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada, and Shirley Price of Eldon; sons, Tommy (Judy) Roberds and David (Peggy) Roberds both of Meta; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (today), Jan. 18, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m., at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia, with services immediately following at 12 p.m., with Larry Cardin and Jim Brown officiating. Interment will be in Stokes Cemetery near Meta.
