Report from Vienna Senior Center

Posted

Dear Fellow Maries County Citizens,

I am writing on behalf of the Vienna Senior Center, a part of Aging Best. Our organization assists with the needs of older persons in Maries County. Some of the services and programs we offer to our older persons include information and assistance, senior center noon meals, home-delivered meals, and care coordination. Like many of you, we are struggling to keep up with the rising costs of food and other expenses. For the fiscal year 2022-23 we served 17,214 meals; that number of meals was 1,485 more than we had in the budget. Therefore, we ended the fiscal year in June by going over budget $4,473.00. We have made some meal changes this past year to hopefully offset this shortage and will be making more changes in the coming year.

We continue to host bake sales to help raise funds and we just recently started up a monthly pitch tournament fundraiser. The Vienna-Bassett Eagles Club is again hosting our major charity fundraiser to benefit the Vienna Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 14. This event has been a huge success due to all the wonderful people, businesses and organizations that made donations of auction items, baked goods, money, and time helping out serving food, cleaning tables, working the auction, and purchasing the auction items. We are very grateful and thankful to the whole community for their support.

What we need now is people and auction items for our upcoming event this Saturday. We need you to come to the event and enjoy a fantastic evening out with friends and family. I can assure you it will be a fun night out. Maries County has an awful lot of fantastic bakers that are donating pies, cakes and cookies. We have 3 quilts for the auction and several themed baskets as well. If you want to donate an auction item you can drop it off at the Eagles Club on Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m. and the auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thanks again to all those who have already blessed us with their generosity. I look forward to seeing you at the event. If you have any questions please call the Vienna Senior Center at 573-422-3834 or Peggy Rowden at 573-759-6076.

Sincerely yours,

Peggy Rowden
