If Monday’s results from Linn are any indication, it could be a very productive season for Samantha Eads, Jacob Walton and the Bland Middle School (BMS) track team.

Aubrey Rehmert broke a pair of BMS school records in the shot put and the discus.

Placing second in the shot, Rehmert broke Faith Gieck’s old record of 32 feet, six inches with a winning throw of 33-06 (10.25 meters) in Linn.

She also broke her own school record in the discus from last year with a second-place throw of 83-05 (25.45m).

In addition to her record-breaking marks in the shot put and discus, Rehmert won the long jump with a leap of 4.08m and took third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.65.

Rehmert’s finishes helped the Lady Bears place sixth out of eight teams.

On the boy’s side, Bland’s Bears finished third in the team standings with 76 points behind Russellville (135) and New Bloomfield (114).

Connor Weigel showed the way individually for the Bears placing second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.38. He also posted a third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.18m.

Brayden Barzee also posted a top-three finish individually with a third-place throw of 9.09m in the shot put.

Garrett Gehlert paced himself to a third-place time of 6:00.65 in the 1600-meter run.

Bland’s Bear 4x200-meter relay team of Weston Doss, Avery Craigmiles, Jack Martin and Cameron Rehmert raced to a second-place time of 2:25.26.

Also placing in the top three Monday at Linn was the Bear 4x400-meter relay team of Connor LeRoux, Malachi Fredendall, Weigel and Gehlert with a third-place time of 5:02.38.

Barzee just missed a pair of top-three finishes in Linn after placing fourth in the discus with a mark of 26.10m.

Hank Willis’ best finish in Linn for the Bears came in the shot put with a sixth-place throw of 7.89m.

Just missing the top three in the boys 4x800-meter relay was the Bland Bear team of Wyatt Rider, Kaegan Kinsey, Craigmiles and Samarcus Anderson with a fourth-place time of 13:55.21.

Mason Foster was seconds away from a top-three finish in the 400-meter dash finishing fifth in a time of 1:13.63 for Eads’ Bears.
