VIENNA — Maries R-1 Superintendent Teresa Messersmith shared general updates with the school board during her report at the Oct. 24 board meeting.

The district received $114,751.15 in Formula Classroom Trust Fund money for the month. Proposition C revenue totaled $55,386.56. The district also got $22,924 from Transportation revenue.

Electricity costs for the district returned to about average with a $7,490.63 bill in October. The previous month’s bill had been more than $10,000.

Board member Denise Wilkinson asked if anyone had found the cause for the high bill the previous month. Messersmith said she had not identified the cause, but it had returned to normal.

Recent facilities projects include updates to the elementary school gym to accommodate the new archery program. The middle school restrooms also got a new coat of paint.

Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) data from last school year’s tests went home with students. The board will see a presentation of district-wide data during its December meeting.

Parent-teacher conferences were on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27. The Vienna/Rader United Methodist Church mission group, Carrie Kleffner and the district provided food and drink for the teachers during the conferences.

The Veterans Day assembly will be Friday, Nov. 10. The breakfast for veterans begins at 9 a.m. and the assembly begins at 10 a.m.

The Smile Mobile will visit the elementary school from Nov. 13 to Nov. 16.

The district will host a Thanksgiving meal for first responders on Nov. 17. Thanksgiving Break will be from Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 26.

Attendance at the elementary school was 94.52 percent with 223 students enrolled. Attendance at the middle school was 96.12 percent with 106 students enrolled. Attendance at the high school was 94.87 percent with 153 students enrolled.

Overall, the district’s attendance was 93.29 percent with 482 students enrolled.

Special Education Director Joe Edwards gave his report later in the meeting. He said his department had been working through many evaluations and reevaluations of students, which have been much more frequent this school year.

The final expenditure report for early childhood special education is usually due to the state around this time each year, but technical difficulties with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education have delayed that report.

Twenty-four students in the district were in the evaluation or reevaluation process for special education services. Seven students who receive special services transferred into the district. Twenty-nine students in the district have disability accommodation plans. Another 44 students have individualized educational plans.
