VIENNA — The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by information disseminated to area law enforcement, were able to arrest two murder suspects in Maries County last Wednesday.
According to police reports, two off duty corrections/police officers were driving on Highway 63 and while traveling through Maries County, spotted two persons who matched the description of the murder suspects. They were seen walking near the Highway 63 and Highway 28 junction close to the Vichy Airport. The officers contacted law enforcement and maintained visual contact until law enforcement arrived on the scene.
The homicide was at the Economy Inn in St. James on April 21 where police found Donald Wethy Jr., 36, St. James, dead from knife wounds. He was found in the parking lot of the motel.
The persons arrested, a man and a woman, are the suspects. Arrested were Josue Martinez, 20, Tamaque, PA, and Kimberly Riston, 29, Banning, CA. The sheriff’s department reported they were taken without incident to the Phelps County Jail.
Martinez and Riston have been charged with first degree murder, and the additional felonies of two counts of armed criminal action, first degree robbery, and first degree tampering with motor vehicle. They are held without bond in the Phelps County Jail.
An autopsy will be done to find the exact cause of Wethy’s death.
