VIENNA — The school’s National Honor Society program partnered with The American Red Cross to put on a school blood draw. Inside the gymnasium that’s usually filled with athletes scraping the hardwood, one would find needles and a whole bunch of gauze.
The blood drive is an annual event and this is not the first time the school did it. In fact, it happens multiple times a year President of the honor society Aubrey Schwartze, also one of the softball captains at the school, had this to say about the NHS role in the blood drive.
“We help set everything up in the mornings,” Schwartze said. “Also, once everything is set up, American Red Cross comes in and sets their things up and then for the rest of the day we check people in for them.”
Lily Grace, historian and treasurer, reflected on what the goal of the blood drive is.
“The goal is to get blood units for Red Cross because the more blood we can give and at the end we can receive a scholarship for the NHS seniors when they graduate,” Grace said. “And of course we do this to help the community and save lives if possible.”
The blood drive was attended by students and staff including Staff member, Joe Edwards.
The American Red Cross team consisted of Collection Tech’s Alecia Underwood and Mo Costa, under the guidance of Charge Lead Angie Haas.
