BELLE— The Maries R-2 Board of Education swore in newly elected officials, nominated Joey Butler II to remain president and Kenda Sanders to serve as vice president during the Monday night reorganization meeting.

New board member Aaron Vandegriff won his first term on the board of education, coming in first place out of the three candidates running. Incumbent Sanders won her second term on the board, coming in second place in the election. The two were sworn into office at the same time by Butler.

Former vice president Dawn Hicks nominated Butler for president, which was seconded by Director Brent Stratman and passed with a 6-0-1 vote with Butler abstaining.

Director Garret Bialczyk nominated Sanders for vice president. It was seconded by Hicks and passed with a 6-0-1 vote, with Sanders abstaining.

Board secretary was assigned to Hicks after she was nominated by Sanders for the position. Stratman seconded the vote, which passed with a 6-0-1 vote. Hicks abstained.

When the delegate-to-the-board position came up, Butler told members that he enjoyed representing the board at state meetings and wouldn’t mind being reassigned to the position. Director Amy Kiso nominated Butler for the position, Bialczyk seconded and it passed with a 7-0 vote.

Kiso nominated Bialczyk to serve as alternate delegate-to-the-board, which was seconded by Kenda and approved with a 7-0 vote.

Following the swearing-in and reorganization, 13-year board director Tom Kinsey, who did not run for re-election this year, was presented with a retirement plaque for his years of service.

“As a whole, you guys have been the best board,” Kinsey said as he stepped down.

Kinsey’s wife Mendy Kinsey, daughter Kaylee Bossaller, and granddaughters Emmi Bossaller, 2, and Mila Kinsey, 2, were all present for the retirement and following celebration.

The board provided a retirement cake for Kinsey and FCCLA catered a meal.

Following the reorganization meeting, Superintendent Dr. Lenice Basham reminded the board that their next regular meeting would take place at 7 p.m. on April 27.
