In her report to the Maries R-1 School Board, read by the special services director, Elementary Principal Shanda Snodgrass reported good news as the school recently was awarded a literacy grant.
Joe Edwards read the report in the absence of Snodgrass. She wrote in her report that last year teacher Mandy Mickem applied for a literacy grant through Dollar General. Recently the school received the good news that Maries R-1 will be awarded a total of $3996. The amount of $3,051 will be distributed to the elementary and $945 will go to the high school. The school district hopes to receive the check within a couple of weeks.
Also in her report, Snodgrass thanked the Vienna FFA Chapter for the Barnyard Zoo. The students loved having the opportunity to enjoy the animals.
All of the baseline testing has been completed throughout the elementary school. Mid term grades were sent home that day.
Kindergarten Family Night is Oct. 7 for nocturnal night.
Current elementary enrollment is 238 students.
