Maries Manor residents receive vaccine Jan. 15

VIENNA — Residents and staff at Maries Manor Nursing Home in Vienna are set to receive COVID-19 vaccines Jan. 15.

Last week, Maries Manor Director of Social Services, Becky Bowser, said it is two weeks away from getting the vaccine.  Considering all that could have happened, she thinks Maries Manor has done pretty well. “We kept it out until mid-November,” she said.

They had an outbreak of the virus at Maries Manor, but everyone recovered. During that time the residents were confined to their rooms, which was hard on them as some people become lonely. Families were not allowed to come into the building.

Everyone is screened and tested each week. They were successful with no positive tests in four weeks and they were able to resume in-person visitors, but with conditions. Those conditions include screening the visitors. Also, the visitors can’t touch their loved ones, must social distance, and there is plexiglass between them. Bowser said to her the no touching is very sad because every person wants to hug their loved one.
