Maries County voters to decide contested races in August

BELLE — Maries County voters will head to the polls on Aug. 4 to weigh in on several local offices, including a contested race for presiding commissioner and a Republican primary for prosecuting attorney.

Most county offices on the ballot feature incumbents seeking another term, with only a handful of races drawing challengers.

The race for presiding commissioner is one of the few contested countywide matchups. Incumbent Victor Stratman, a Republican, will face challenger Shannon W. Thompson, also a Republican. The position plays a key role in county governance, including oversight of budgets, infrastructure and administrative operations.

Another contested race appears in the Republican primary for prosecuting attorney, where incumbent Anthoney (Tony) Skouby will face Kathleen Slone. The prosecuting attorney is responsible for handling criminal cases and representing the state in legal matters within the county.

Several other incumbents are running unopposed in their respective races.

For associate circuit judge in the 25th Judicial Circuit, Kerry Glen Rowden, a Republican, is seeking reelection.

In the race for circuit clerk/recorder, Democrat Mark Buschmann is also running unopposed.

Democrat Rhonda Rodgers will appear on the ballot for county clerk without opposition.

Republican Beth T. Wulff, who was appointed to her current position, is seeking a full-term at the polls as collector, while Republican Angie Pasley is running unopposed for treasurer.
