Lady Tiger volleyball splits pair of GVC home matches

Hosting Viburnum’s Lady Blue Jays and Steelville’s Lady Cardinals last week, Whitney Sooter’s Belle Lady Tiger volleyball team looked to snap a three-match losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Belle’s junior-varsity Lady Tigers swept the Lady Blue Jays in two sets by scores of 25-3 and 25-15 before their varsity counterparts also swept Viburnum in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-22.

Chloe Jones served up 14 aces for Belle to go along with seven aces from Lydia Jones and two aces apiece from Kennady Kinkead and Natalie Lansford.

Adding to her team-high 14 aces, Chloe Jones also paced the Lady Tigers against Viburnum with 10 kills.

She was followed with six kills apiece from Hayden Fann and Lydia Jones.

Charleigh Elrod also had two kills to go along with a kill each out of Zoe Camden and Lansford.

Camden dished out 23 assists while Lydia Jones led the Lady Tigers with 18 digs.

Also reaching double digits in digs were Chloe Jones (16), Fann (11) and Kinkead (11).

Jenna Heidbreder and Camden both added five digs to go along with two digs apiece from Elrod and Lansford.

Hosting Steelville’s Lady Cardinals for senior night last Friday, Belle dropped the JV match in two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-10 before seniors Lydia Jones and Skylee Railey were recognized prior to the varsity match.

Belle then split the first two sets with Steelville before falling in five sets to the Lady Cardinals by scores of 24-26, 25-23, 26-28, 25-15 and 16-14.

Coming up on Saturday, Oct. 10, Belle will host their annual home varsity volleyball tournament which will take place at Belle High School (BHS) and Bland Middle School (BMS).

Making up the red pool at BHS will be the host Lady Tigers, Bourbon Lady Warhawks and North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds.

Teams in the black pool at BMS include Cuba’s Lady Wildcats, Steelville’s Lady Cardinals and Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs.

Pool play at BHS will begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with Belle facing Bourbon before North Callaway and Bourbon square off at 10 a.m.

Capping pool play at BHS will be the host Lady Tigers and North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds at approximately 11 a.m.

Over in Bland, Steelville and Cuba will kick off pool play at 9 a.m., in a Crawford County volleyball showdown before Steelville faces Dixon at 10 a.m.

Concluding pool play in Bland will be Cuba and Dixon and approximately 11 a.m.

Place matches will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the consolation match followed by the third-place match at 1:30 p.m., and the championship match at approximately 2:30 p.m.
