Losing a pair of matches to Owensville and Cuba the previous week, Whitney Sooter’s Belle Lady Tiger volleyball teams looked to bounce back last week on their home court with wins in matches against Laquey and Dixon.
Hosting Laquey’s Lady Hornets last Tuesday, Belle swept the JV match in two sets by scores of 25-9 and 25-11 while Belle’s varsity Lady Tigers also swept their match over Laquey in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-9 and 25-11.
Chloe and Lydia Jones each served seven aces for Belle while the trio of Zoe Camden, Hayden Fann and Kennedy Kinkead each recorded four service aces.
Fann and Lydia Jones led the Lady Tigers with six kills against Laquey while Chloe Jones added four kills.
Jenna Heidbreder and Camden both added two kills to go along with the duo of Skylee Railey and Charleigh Elrod recording a kill apiece.
Camden also dished out a team-high 15 assists against Laquey while Chloe Jones led Belle with four digs.
Facing Dixon two nights later last Thursday in a Highway 28 showdown, Belle took the JV match in two sets 25-17 and 25-13 while the varsity match went five sets in Belle’s favor by scores of 25-12, 20-25, 25-23, 13-25 and 15-12.
Chloe Jones served up a team-high five aces for Belle while Camden, Railey and Lydia Jones each recorded three aces.
Lydia Jones posted a team-best 14 kills against Dixon followed by Elrod with six kills.
Duplicating her assist total against Laquey, Camden also recorded 15 assists against Dixon.
Saturday at the Cuba varsity volleyball tournament, Belle swept Viburnum (25-21, 25-14 and Herculaneum (25-22, 25-22) while splitting with Steelville (18-25, 26-24) and Warrenton (25-22, 14-25).
Placing third in their pool, they took on Licking Saturday afternoon looking to advance to the semifinals and a chance at team hardware.
Falling 25-22 and 25-13 against the Lady Wildcats, Belle wound up losing to the eventual tournament champions.
After facing Eugene (Monday) and Linn last night (Tuesday), Belle will get another shot at Cuba on the road tomorrow (Thursday) night in Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) action.
