Lady Tiger golf ends historic season with fourth-place finish in state tournament

FULTON — Already making school history as the first girls golf team district champions at Belle High School (BHS), Nate Lansford’s Lady Tigers entered last week’s Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 1 Girls Golf Championships at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton looking for more hardware to add to the BHS trophy case.

Sitting in fourth place as a team with a score of 421 after last Monday’s first round, Belle was 12 strokes ahead of South Shelby’s fifth-place total of 433.

Last Tuesday’s second round saw Belle improve 12 strokes on their day-one team score giving them a two-day total of 830 securing fourth-place state hardware 21 strokes ahead of South Shelby’s fifth-place total of 851.

“Words can’t even describe how proud I am of my girls, “Lansford said. “It has been awesome seeing the girls improve with each tournament and for their hard work to culminate with state hardware after winning a district title.”

Finishing ahead of Belle in the Class 1 Girls team standings were Highland (774), South Harrison (785) and El Dorado Springs (790).

Firing identical rounds of 89, Lady Tiger senior Anastyn Lansford carded a two-day total of 176 to place eighth in the tournament earning All-State honors for the third time in her high school golf career.

“Earning All-State honors twice before was nice as an individual but this year was more special having my teammates with me being able to compete with them at state,” Anastyn Lansford said.

Anastyn was not the only Lansford in the top 15 last week at Tanglewood.

Lady Tiger freshman Natalie Lansford shot an 18-hole round of 98 during her first 18 holes last Monday before shaving three strokes during her second round last Tuesday.

Her second 18-hole round of 95 put her into a tie for 15th place with El Dorado Springs senior Sage McCullough for the final individual state medal.

“It has been pretty awesome getting to play with my sister during her senior season,” Natalie Lansford said. “Now she has me motivated to do as well as she has over the next three years.”

Joining the Lansford sisters in the top 15 earning All-State honors among MSHSAA Class 1 Girls golfers included Ash Grove junior Rylee Allred (1st, 152), Whitfield sophomore Tina Zhang (2nd, 160), Stover senior Mia Rowland (3rd, 166), South Harrison senior Abby Owens (4th, 173), School of the Ozarks sophomore Laylah Bates (174), South Harrison junior Ainsley Klindt (T-6th, 176), Liberty (Mountain View) junior Kameryn Wood (T-6th, 176), Highland sophomore Ava Hudson (9th, 182), Penney senior Isabelle Potts (T-10th, 187), Brookfield junior Kierstyn Sutch (T-10, 187), Rock Port sophomore Karlie Gebhards (T-10th, 187), Mound City senior Ava Luna (13th, 188) and Brookfield sophomore Lexi Littrell (14th, 190).

Senior Aubrey Rehmert shot 18-hole rounds of 117 and 107 giving her a two-day total of 224 tying her for 65th place with Harrisburg sophomore Ava Grindstaff.

“It has been fun to be able to swing a golf club with these girls and help them win a district title and now place in the top four in the state,” Rehmert said.

Sophomore Madelynn Rhoads rounded out the Lady Tiger golf quartet with a two-day total of 235 putting her in 79th place.

She shot a round-one total of 117 before ending her sophomore season with a round-two score of 118 over 18 holes.

“Being able to win districts as a team and now place in the state has made my sophomore year on the golf course that much more memorable,” Rhoads said.
