James Anthony “Jim” Fick, 86, of Vienna, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, in SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City.

He was born Jan. 31, 1937, to Sylvester Henry and Bertha Ann (Kloeppel) Fick at Brinktown. 

Jim entered active federal service in the U.S. Army Nov. 9, 1958, and attended the U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Va., and served in the U.S. Army Reserve until Sept. 30, 1964, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, at the rank of Sergeant.

He was united in marriage to Georgena Naomi Laubert, Sept. 7, 1957, at Vienna.

Jim was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Vienna, where he was a dedicated member serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Visitation Inter-Parish Catholic School Board member, Visitation Dream Team, and the Visitation Parish Council member. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus Argyle.

Jim worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation District, starting as a maintenance worker, and retiring after 42 years as Area Maintenance Supervisor for District 5 in Vienna. After his retirement, Jim continued working with Stratman Trucking and Fick Distributing.

He was preceded in death by parents, Sylvester and Bertha; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Fick (Luella), Aloysius “Al” Fick (Leona), and Ralph Fick (Joyce); and daughter-in-law, Pam Fick.

He is survived by wife of 66 years, Georgena, of the home in Vienna; children, Alan Fick (Terri) of Vienna, Kathy Nelson (Rob Cox) of Jefferson City, Glenn Fick (Jill) of Vienna, Kevin Fick of Jefferson City, and Peggy Copeland (Jamey) of Jefferson City; and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, in the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, with Rev. Basil Tigga as celebrant and Deacon Micheal Brooks assisting. Interment was in Visitation Cemetery, Vienna.
