Howard Glade Carter, 88, Vienna, formerly of Bucklin, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City.

Howard was born June 26, 1932, to Kenneth and Mary Alice (Wickizer) Carter, in St. Catharine.

He was united in marriage to Ida Verlee Quinn, Dec. 23, 1954.

Howard was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 1951-71, attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant After retiring from the Marines, he was employed as a food service manager by the Missouri Department of Corrections at the Boonville Correctional facility and possibly his favorite job, a Wal-Mart greeter!

He was preceded in death by wife, Ida; parents, Kenneth and Mary; brother, George Carter; and grandmother, Hattie Lineberry.

He is survived by children, Howard G. Carter, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Russellville, Charlotte Cremer of Fulton, Vickie Wintrich and husband Glenn of Gordonville, Texas, Mary Pierce and Jim Strong of Jefferson City, Rachel McQuigg and husband Cliff of Nathalie, Va., and Rebecca Wilson and Jim Wansing of Vienna; brother, Jerry Carter of Macon; sisters, Janet Kelley and husband Charles of Macon and Martha Thornhill of Blue Springs; and 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, May 23, at Delaney Funeral Home in Bucklin. Burial with military honors was in Bucklin Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to Honor Flight, Bucklin R-2 School District’s lunch program or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Bucklin.
